Job Description: Position Summary:
The Nutritionist provides ongoing support, consultation, and education for Healthy Mother Healthy Baby staff in regards to nutrition and the nutritional status of their clients. As part of this role the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program requires the services of a registered dietitian to provide ongoing training of staff in the delivery of the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program and to ensure the elements of a comprehensive prenatal nutrition program are incorporated.
Position Duties:
Nutritional Screening/Assessment
Completes nutritional assessments using 24 hour diet recalls and dietary intakes and develops nutrition recommendations. Recommendations will be made regarding: food group and nutrient deficiencies, food insecurity, vitamin and mineral supplementation, appropriate weight gain, nutritional implications of alcohol, disordered eating, chronic diseases, Gestational Diabetes, Hepatitis C, dietary restrictions/special diets and infant nutrition.
Provides education and counselling to clients when referred by team and colleagues.
Ensures milk coupons and vegetable & fruit coupons are provided to clients and tracking system is in place for analysis and accountability.
Orders iron supplement as indicated necessary when provided with a prescription.
Maintains charting on the Electronic Medical record. Duties include: assessing client charts, receiving tasks from team members and developing, updating templates with support
Recommends resources for staff to provide to clients based on the nutrition assessment
Acts as a liaison to the clients physician, diabetic education centre team etc. as necessary
Education for Staff:
Acts as a nutrition consultant to team and colleagues as needed
Orientates new staff in nutrition education and counsell
