Operator I/Parks Maintenance

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Roads/Parks Supervisor this role is responsible for providing an overall level of maintenance to the Roads/Parks system and winter maintenance within the Town of Caledon. As the Operator 1/Parks Maintenance, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Summer

• Oversee and carry out park maintenance operations throughout parks, facilities and streetscape environments including but not limited to cutting grass, grooming ball diamonds, ensure cleanliness of Town buildings, waste management and removing litter
• Operate small equipment including light trucks, tractors, mowers, Trackless, tree chipper, chainsaws etc.
• Maintain equipment used for parks/tree maintenance including preventative maintenance.
• Ensure efficient and conscientious and safe work is carried out in all tree maintenance activities and work programs as prepared by the Supervisor
• Implement traffic control plans in accordance with Book 7 when required
• Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned

Winter

• Operate heavy vehicles/equipment for winter maintenance and maintain such vehicles under all legislated requirements
• Assist with road patrol and/or inspections as per the requirements of the provincial minimum maintenance standards for highways
• Record road conditions and report to Area Supervisor
• Participate in routine maintenance and perform daily safety and maintenance checks
• Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
• Advise the Lead Hand and/or Area Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with Grade 12 education or equivalent; a post-secondary diploma in a closely related field is considered an asset. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a landscape/park maintenance environment, minimum 2 years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in road maintenance and construction tasks. A valid Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license is required, with no more than 3 demerit points, daily access to a vehicle, and must be compliant with the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration.

We are seeking an individual with experience in operation and light servicing of vehicles (trucks, chippers, chainsaws) and equipment and experience in winter maintenance operations. Municipal experience is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines, superior customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

When in the Operator 1 (Roads) position, this position offers $29.09 per hour. When in the Parks Maintenance (Parks) position, this position offers $28.74 per hour. This position includes a competitive benefit package.
