The West Coast Hockey Prep Camp is a premier hockey development camp in Port Alberni, BC, on Canada’s stunning West Coast. We offer day camp and Overnight Camp experiences for players, goalies, officials, and coaches.

Camp is a life-changing experience for players, coaches, officials and families. Participants from around the world come year after year for life experience, development opportunities, and networking. Prep Camp is like a family.

A Legacy Spanning Generations: Prep Camp has a rich history that dates back generations, starting in Powell River, then Comox, and finally Port Alberni in 2007. Our network has a deep connection to the camp, with many members having grown up attending it since childhood. Today, these individuals have become global leaders in our sport and beyond, working in organizations such as the NHL, the IIHF, USport, NCAA, and even SpaceX!Please note that this is a seasonal position, typically during the summer months. Camp counselors are expected to be available for the duration of the camp session.

Job Summary:

The Camp Counsellor is responsible for fostering an inclusive, safe and positive culture while supervising a team of players. The Counsellor will be assigned to an age group at least 2 years younger. Age groups range from age 10 to 17. This position is responsible for player safety all day, with scheduled breaks.

This position is not required to be on the ice but can, only during team practice times, to aid in coaching. This is a one or two-week overnight position, with the possibility of 2 days of weekend work. Meals and accommodation are provided by the camp.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise & support players/campers during their day
  • Support players who require minor first aid
  • Facilitate evening activities
  • Stay overnight with players in camp accommodation
  • Additional duties as assigned

Supervision Received:

This position reports to the Coordinator, Residence Hall as well as the Director, Residence Hall when RC is not available.

Supervision Given:

This position provides supervision to players/campers.

Qualifications Required:

  • 1 + years experience working with kids, preferably in a camp setting
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to keep up with young athletes
  • Ability to think critically in a variety of situations
  • First Aid + CPR C
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector
  • Must be at least 16 years +
