Job description

Winter Emergency Response (WER) is a collaborative community effort within the Tri-Municipal region to create a temporary, emergency weather response intended to mitigate risk for unsheltered residents within the region who are vulnerable to serious, critical, or potentially fatal health impacts as a result of cold weather exposure. It is active only when the weather reaches a wind chill threshold of -20 degrees Celsius and runs from Nov 1- March 31.

When activated, the Late Night Café operates from 7PM to 7AM within the Congregational Christian Fellowship Church at 445 King Street in Spruce Grove. The program provides a safe place to sleep, hot meals, and access to cold weather supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Work nightshift 7pm-7am, on call; weather dependent.
  • @80hrs/month or less (salary wage)
  • November 1st- March 31st
  • Monitor overnight space and maintain safe practice for guests and volunteers.
  • Provide direct care and support to individuals using the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Prepare and serve meals.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients.
  • Attend and complete job training provided by employer.

Qualifications:

- First aid
- Previous experience with the unhoused community is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of meal preparation and food safe practices.
- Ability to work independently and follow employee guidelines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and patient demeanor
