Packaged Boiler & Gas Burner Technician
Boilersmith Ltd. is looking for a well organized, team-orientated candidate, ideally residing within 50 km of Seaforth, Ontario. The successful candidate will ideally hold a G3 or higher Gas Fuels Safety Technician Certificate for Ontario and an understanding of electrical wiring diagrams.
This position will require the successful candidate to have excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude with relevant industry experience through servicing, installing and/or commissioning of industrial boilers. Troubleshooting electrical issues by using wiring diagrams and the ability to provide after sales technical support is expected in this role.
Job Summary
The Packaged Boiler & Gas Burner Test fire assistant will assist with the wiring, firing, and testing boilers both in the plant and in the field. This position is responsible for ensuring manufacturing is compliant with TSSA and CSA, industry regulated quality standards for gas and oil-fired equipment.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- After training you will have the ability to
- read and interpret engineering documentation and wiring diagrams.
- build fuel trains.
- build and test control panels using wiring diagrams.
- build and test electrical panels for condensate tanks with pumps.
- trouble shoot, test-fire and set combustion on all types of firetube boilers.
- install all types of piping and steam/water trim on firetube boilers, feedwater and blow down tanks per ASME, QC and CSA B51 code.
- conduct the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with the customers.
- maintain quality control documentation.
- conduct pressure and electrical connection tests.
- perform start-up commissioning of boilers in field.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- TSSA G3 or higher Gas Fuels Safety Technician Certificate for Ontario.
- Understanding of electrical wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge in PLC system architecture, instrumentation, and controls.
- Knowledge of UL, CSA 22.2, CSA B139, CSA B149.1, CSA B149.3, CSA B149.6 codes.
- Must possess mechanical and electrical aptitude and skill set.
- Consideration will be given to students in the process of earning TSSA Gas Fitter Licences.
Desired Experience
- 1-2 years’ relevant experience in servicing, installing, commissioning of commercial/industrial boilers.
- Troubleshooting electrical issues by using wiring diagrams.
- Works well under pressure and on time.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Basic knowledge of Word and Excel
- Clean driving record
Physical Requirements
Requires climbing, bending, crouching, crawling, and lifting 50 pounds, working in confined and elevated areas, and prolonged standing.
Education
Prefer a minimum of 2- or 3-year college diploma or equivalent professional experience.
- Must be able to read and work from wiring diagrams and engineering documents.
- Must have basic math abilities to calculate fuel flow.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must have a broad knowledge of boiler controls.
- Mechanical and/or electrical background a must.
- Must have the ability to trouble shoot boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Must have the ability and knowledge to trouble shoot systems with no schematic.
Working Conditions
· Normal Workshop Conditions. Some exposure to hazardous conditions will required the incumbent to wear PPEs.
