Paint Shop Prep/Back up Painter

The Opportunity:
Join our expanding team as a Painter/Prep Person, where you'll play a crucial role in ensuring that all parts and products are meticulously prepared for exceptional paint jobs. No prior experience is necessary; we provide comprehensive on-the-job training. Candidates must be physically fit and able to maneuver parts and equipment in a Metal Manufacturing Environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean, wash, strip, sand, or remove corrosion to prepare parts for paint application.
- Thoroughly inspect parts to ensure they are free of any damage.
- Remove excess spatter using basic hand tools.
- Mask off parts not requiring paint or requiring alternate colors.
- Complete final checks to ensure parts are fully prepped before entering the paint booth.
- Apply touch-ups using paint brushes as needed.
- Assemble painted components.
- Inspect hand tools and equipment for proper working order.
- Report any deviations from specifications to the supervisor.
- Select appropriate paint or mix paints using automated equipment according to predetermined formulas.
- Operate handheld spray guns to apply protective coatings to large items.
- Clean and maintain equipment, including guns and personal protective gear.
- Operate cranes to move products.
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
- Comply with company policies and procedures, especially regarding health, safety, and WHMIS regulations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Preferred experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using a spray gun is an asset.
- Ability to carry and move equipment and supplies weighing over 25 pounds.
- Color distinction skills are essential.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Ability to operate required equipment safely and responsibly.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and oral.
