Paint Sales Associate

We are looking for a Paint Sales Associate to join our team in a part-time, permanent capacity. If you are a motivated individual that has existing paint knowledge we want to hear from you! Our ideal candidate has retail sales experience in paint, a friendly and outgoing demeanor, and works well in a team environment.

The Paint Sales Associate's core responsibility is providing outstanding customer service and helping to create the best paint department experience possible. Their specialized duties mainly include giving colour and paint product selection advice and accurate colour matching of competitive products. When not assisting customers, the focus shifts to maintaining the paint department by keeping it clean, well-stocked, and accurately priced.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service

• Ensure customers are greeted within 30 seconds of entering the store or the paint department.
• Determine customers’ needs by asking open-ended questions.
• Assist customers in locating merchandise in store, on homehardware.ca, and process special orders.
• Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their paint and decor project.
• Remind customers about the importance of prep work before painting or staining, and ask if they have what they need for this (e.g. sandpaper, cleaners, brushes, rollers, etc.)
• Suggest to save a customer’s paint order in our system.
• Offer colour matching expertise and paint product selection advice.
• Cut keys, wire, chain, etc. as needed per customer requests.
• Assist customers with carrying out large or heavy items.

Paint Department Maintenance

• Update prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
• Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in annual inventory counts.
• Keep overstock neatly stored in the designated area and regularly check overstock quantities and refill any empty spots on the shelves.
• Restock merchandise displays in the paint department.
• Put out flyer and sale tags, as directed by management and remove tags when promotions end.
• Maintain an awareness of all ongoing promotions and advertisements.
• Maintain the paint counter on a daily basis by wiping down with the appropriate cleaner, and organizing any materials on the desk.
• Regularly sweep paint aisles to keep clean of debris.
• Face product on paint shelves on a daily basis, to ensure products are easy to find, labels are easy to read, and shelves look fully stocked.

Ordering & Receiving

• Process special orders for non-stock or out of stock items.
• Record customer requests for product and follow-up when product arrives at the store.
• Reorder merchandise as needed, when notified by the designated Purchaser.
• Advise the designated Purchaser of shortages, damaged goods, back-orders, etc.
• Suggest new products, merchandise lines, services, and/or cost containment measures to management.
• Help unload incoming trucks.
• Put out newly received stock, following the “first in, first out” principle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Fluent English is required.
• Minimum 1 year of paint store experience is required (including colour matching, sales, and knowledge of Paint & Decor products).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers.
• A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
• Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Good mathematical skills.
• Creative abilities for making attractive in-store displays considered an asset.
• Ability to learn quickly and retain a large amount of product-specific knowledge.
• Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
• Willingness to learn and continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently to load and unload customer orders.
• Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.
• Must be able to climb a ladder to restock product.
• Must be able and comfortable to stand for an extended period of time.

SCHEDULING: This is a part-time, permanent position with 8-hour shifts on Friday and Saturday, with additional days as needed/desired. During our buys spring/summer season, up to 32hrs/week are available in this role.

Salary: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 18 – 32 per week
