Parent Advocate - Permanent Full Time

McMan is recruiting two Parent Advocates for our Parent-Child Assistance Program to join McMan on a permanent full-time basis in Calgary.

The Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) supports individuals who have had a pregnancy in the last 6 months or are currently pregnant and have used drugs and-or alcohol during this time. The main goal of the PCAP is to prevent future births affected by drugs and-or alcohol. Participants enrolled in the program are supported for 3 years by the Parent Advocate.

Some of the key aspects of this role include:

As a Parent Advocate you are working from Relational Theory, Harm Reduction, Stages of Change and Natural Support frameworks. This role is community based and participants are supported through in-home visits and through transportation to appointments and other matters related to their goals, such as court, probation, child welfare meetings, medical appointments.

The Parent Advocate works closely with the participants to connect them to community services through referrals and advocacy, extensively role modelling life and regulation skills, as well providing assistance to increase the participants capacity to live successfully according to their identified vision.

You will be responsible for:

- Providing support in the areas of, but not limited to; addictions, mental and physical health, legal system navigation, parenting skills, healthy boundaries and relationships, income and housing, goal setting and completion.
- Strong administration skills are an asset as application of assessment tools are a key factor in this role.
- Daily case notes tracking, report writing, and weekly team meeting attendance are required.
- Some evening and weekend work may be needed to assist participants in achieving goals.

You must have:

· Diploma or Degree in Counselling,

· Two years of relevant experience in Human Services

· Strong interpersonal skills, counseling skills, program planning & administrative abilities

· A good knowledge of community resources

· Valid Driver’s license and adequate automobile insurance for a reliable vehicle

· Relevant First Aid Training

· Suicide Intervention Awareness Training

· A current (no more than 6 months old) Police/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention check.

· This role requires flexibility in work hours together with evenings and weekends.
