Position Overview: The Parks and Cemetery Coordinator is a diverse role within the Public Works team, reporting directly to the Supervisor of Parks. This position focuses on administrative duties related to the operations of the Parks business unit, with a specific responsibility for cemetery business operations. This role is the power user for the Parks SharePoint site and serves as the liaison between the Town of Canmore and the public regarding any inquiries related to the municipal cemetery and outdoor public spaces. In addition to the administrative responsibilities, the Coordinator assists with various departmental projects, effectively collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, which may involve fieldwork. This position will provide you with autonomy, as you will be responsible for owning the day-to-day administration of the Town Cemetery including; management of internment applications and burial permits with kindness, patience, respect and the highest confidentiality. The core duties include but are not limited to; payroll and recruitment support, managing the internment administration process, extensive database management, leading special parks projects and grant applications. As this is not your traditional administrative role, this diverse position also requires some year-round field work for activities such as; processing permits, completing inspections and mountain pine beetle monitoring, so this role will provide you with the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy our Parks and public spaces while you work!

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent – required
  • Additional post-secondary education or training in related field such as office and/or public administration, Parks and recreation, horticulture – asset
  • Commissioner for Oaths (Province of Alberta) appointment – required (may complete post hire)
  • Experience with database management software, municipal accounting software, mapping software, website editing software, human resources management software, and Cemetery record management software – asset
  • Minimum of intermediate level of computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced level of Excel – required
  • Knowledge of Cemetery operations and the Alberta Cemeteries Act – asset
  • Ability and experience dealing with sensitive client issues requiring empathy, diplomacy, and tact– required
  • Strong organizational skills with proven attention to detail and accuracy – required
  • Experience working in funeral services and/or with grieving families - asset

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate- $32.57 - $36.40 per hour. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience/education and internal equity considerations.

Work Schedule: This is an office based full-time temporary role for 12 months. Monday to Friday, 7.30 am – 4.00 pm. Scheduled hours may vary based on operational needs.
