Temporary Summer Position (May – September)

The Township of Georgian Bay is a growing water-based community located in the District of Muskoka along the eastern shore of beautiful Georgian Bay. We have a multitude of inland lakes, are a gateway to the world-famous 30,000 Islands and the access point to Georgian Bay Islands National Park. Steeped in history, our cultural roots are an important part of our community.

The Township has a permanent resident population of approximately 3,500 and an additional seasonal population of around 17,500. The municipal office is located in Port Severn which is a short commute from Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and surrounding areas.

Overview: We are looking for 3 Parks and Roads LabourerSummer Students to join our Operations team! Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this role will assist with the maintenance of Township parks, trails, road allowances, and facilities. This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy a hands-on position that allows them to work outdoors. Join us for the 2024 summer season and gain transferrable skills while learning more about the Township.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Grass cutting and trimming, tree and shrub maintenance, watering, weeding, and planting of Township gardens.
• Maintenance of parks, beach areas, pickleball courts, and more. This includes garbage and recycling collection, as well as the opening/closing and maintenance of public washrooms.
• Assist with set-up for special events in the Parks and facilities.
• Minor maintenance tasks within Township facilities, such as painting, minor repairs, and janitorial duties.
• Road maintenance tasks may include assisting with guardrail and post repair, installation of signs, and more.

Working Conditions: This position will require travel throughout the Township which encompasses MacTier, Honey Harbour, Port Severn, and surrounding areas. Outdoor work in variable weather conditions is required. This is a hand-on labour position that will require walking, kneeling, and lifting. The selected candidates must provide their own CSA approved safety footwear upon hire.

Knowledge/experience:

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a secondary or post-secondary education program.
• Valid Ontario Class G Drivers Licence and acceptable drivers abstract (to be provided upon hire).
• Good time management skills, punctual, and reliable.
• Must be able to lift 45lb and exert effort to lift, push, pull or carry objects for short periods of time.
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment would be an asset.

Wage rate: $18.55 per hour, based on a 40-hour workweek, including days, evenings, and weekends. This temporary position will run from May 13th to September 2nd, 2024.
