Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, Parks Operations, and taking direction from the Chief Operator/Parks Person 1, the successful candidate will perform a variety of General Maintenance, Events, Horticulture and Parks Operations functions in a team environment and will be responsible for maintenance and monitoring of the ice surface, refrigeration plant and water features.
Duties and Responsibilities
-Responsible for all maintenance functions including but not limited to ice rink maintenance, ice rink amenities and water features.
-Perform specialized ice maintenance duties, driving of ice resurfacer; maintain records and log books on pertinent data relating to the operation of refrigeration plant.
-Responsible for the set-up, takedown and maintenance of the Celebration Square ice rink.
-Performs specified duties as required under the Ontario Pool Health Regulations in terms of water chemistry, filtration, log book, maintenance specific to the regulations of the Celebration Square wading pool.
-Provides functional guidance to seasonal staff ensuring efficiency and productivity are maintained.
-Responds to inquiries from the public and provides information and resources for special events, displays and community projects.
-Provides support in the area of Health & Safety ensuring all staff follows all legislated policies and City guidelines.
-Ensures compliance with Corporate and Departmental initiatives, guidelines, policies and procedures and Parks By-laws.
-Operates and maintains all assigned vehicles, equipment and tools according to the standards outlined by the City.
-Trains and instructs assigned employees in the proper operation of small and large motorized vehicles, equipment and tools as required.
-Responsible for assigned inventory control.
-Performs all related administrative functions e.g. Tailboard Sheets, Daily Vehicle Inspection Booklet etc.
-Performs Parks and Facility sanitation functions.
-Performs winter maintenance activities, such as operating Kubota and truck plows and tractors as required.
-May assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Parks Person 1 and/or Chief Operator 1.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Skills and Qualifications
-Minimum Grade 12 secondary school diploma.
-Experience in ice rink and refrigeration plant maintenance is an asset.
-Class "B" Operating Engineer Certificate is an asset.
-Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's License.
-Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Designation, IMEO, Basic Refrigeration, IMPT and Certified Pool.
-Operator (CPO) Designation are all definite assets.
-Experience in outdoor water features and irrigation is an asset.
-Standard First Aid and CPR is required or must be obtained on one's own expense within 6 months of commencing position.
-Must have excellent organizational, record-keeping and problem solving skills.
-Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
-Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
-Must demonstrate leadership and team-building skills.
-Ability to safely operate and maintain ice resurfacer, small & large vehicles, power equipment and hand tools.
-Must have working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
-Must be willing to be trained on INFOR/IFI.
 
Shift and weekend work will be required (including holidays). May be assigned to an alternate duties/location during the winter period. Successful applicants must be prepared to be moved, with appropriate notice, to a different facility as operational needs require.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 57,786.00 - $ 77,051.00
