Job description

We are looking for a new creative to join the Eccentric Artist team! The Eccentric Artist Studio & Gallery is a student-minded, upbeat pottery studio which also teaches cyanotype printing, block printing, kids clay classes, private events etc. If you love the arts, have earlier experience working with clay in a studio environment, then send us your resume or pop on by the studio at 829-C Admirals Road for a visit! We are currently seeking a long-term studio tech/ceramics teacher who is self motivated, organized, energetic and has exceptional knowledge of clay bodies. This new addition to our team would preferably wish to stay within the business long-term, is able to take feedback from management to implement changes and will encourage the growth and success of The Eccentric Artist Studio & Gallery.

Job Description:

· Design and develop course curriculum and make samples for all classes. This will include any stencils needed to make proposed items and required clay weights as well as descriptions for web page and class handouts.

· Follow planned curriculum to ensure students produce high quality pieces.

· Prepare studio prior to class and clean up after, washing tools, brushing off tables, sweeping floor, putting away canvas mats,

· Making glaze tiles and maintaining Glaze Tile Board

· Provide item/student/client information to admin to send out lonely ceramics emails to ensure ceramics don’t sit on shelves longer than 2 months.

· Supervise Open Studio time including assisting set up, clean up and occasional Q&A from clients/students.

· Teach at least one evening class and be able to assist on weekends with children’s classes and private parties as required.

· Help maintain glaze and clay inventory and advise when to place orders.

· Participate in and contribute to Staff Meetings

· Teach classes, workshops, camps, and parties to kids, teens, and adults.

· Teach and use a range of mediums and techniques including pottery, sculpture, painting, and more.

· Researching significant proper historical information for discovery workshops and background for social media posts

· Greet and help customers who visit the studio.

· Work with the team and owner to assist with:

  • Loading and unloading kiln with assistance.
  • Cleaning kiln furniture and reapplying wash.
  • Keeping kiln furniture and accessories organized with accurate inventory.

· Maintain the studio space cleanliness standards through cleaning, tidying, and organizing artwork and supplies.

· All cleanup after Open Studio hours including inspecting all tools, wheel, glaze container maintenance, and canvas mats. Washing table canvas as required.

· Make sales by informing customers about our current offerings.

· Provide studio orientations to new visitors.

· Supervise open studio.

· Restock supplies and tools.

· Keep student and kiln rental pieces organized and rotating on studio shelves as they dry or are fired.

Requirements:

· Highly cooperative in teamwork.

· Work independently.

· Intermediate knowledge of clay bodies and glaze

· Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

· Must have 3 years or more experience in hand building.

· Exceptional written and spoken communication skills in English.

· Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.

· Ability to receive, process, and implement feedback from managerial staff.

· Ability to teach wheel throwing is preferred.

Job Types: Part-time (8-20 hours/week)

Permanent Ceramics Educator Salary: $25-28/hour based on experience.
