We employee over 1000 employees throughout Canada and the US. The Payroll and Benefits Administrator is part of our corporate team providing support to our ever-growing business.

Cando runs biweekly payroll in 4 companies – 3 in Canada and 1 in the US. Our payroll is done all inhouse using UKG Pro and WFM. This position is currently based out of Brandon, MB however for the right incumbent, this position could work out of one of our offices in Winnipeg or Edmonton. General working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day. Cando provides comprehensive benefits plan along with an employee ownership program. Job Description

The Payroll and Benefits Administrator is responsible for accurate delivery of payroll and the management of benefits for Cando's operations across Canada and the United States. The Administrator works as part of a team of payroll professionals to manage all aspects of payroll including processing, compliance, and reporting along with administering the company's various benefit programs.

Role & Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Completes Cando's Canadian bi-weekly payrolls including confirming time entries, monitoring hours, managing deductions/garnishments/allowances, correcting coding errors, submitting to banks, posting to GLs, and completing remittances
  • Manage all changes to employees including employee setups, changes to positions, wages, departments, etc. as the changes relate to payroll
  • Prepare all payroll related forms such as ROEs, T4s, SUB applications, surveys, employment verifications, and WCB payroll forms
  • Support Cando's US payroll administrators in system management and reporting
  • Coordinate compensation review data including participating in surveys and analyzing data
  • Participate in the ongoing enhancements to payroll software and employee interfaces
  • Maintain all copies of payroll records and required through legislative avenues
  • Participate in all required balancing, reporting, and reconciliations and participate in annual audits
  • Answer all employee questions related to payroll and work with outside agencies to deliver payroll information as is permitted
  • Build strong relationships and rapport with all levels of management and employees throughout the organization.

Benefits

  • Administers the company's benefits plan through activities such as enrolment/terminations, tracking entitlements, collecting fees, remitting payments, reconciling monthly statements, and remitting monthly reports
  • Work with Cando's benefit brokers in both Canada and the US through the design, implementation, and re-enrolment processes as needed
  • Perform all required balancing, reporting, and reconciliations including preparing all legislative reporting
  • Prepare and manage all employee communications as it relates to benefit programs, including re-enrolments, and changes to policy or premiums.
  • Answer all employee questions related to benefit plans and coverages
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained in all matters

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of payroll, human resource, and benefits policies, principles, legislation and collective agreement provisions
  • Ability to assimilate information, rules, regulations, legislation, policies etc., and to explain the same to employees, managers, and outside agencies with courtesy, tact, and discretion
  • Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines that exist with payroll and benefit administration; flexible but highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Skilled in the use of Word, Excel, payroll softwares, and outside agency reporting software
  • Core knowledge of relevant regulations/legislation for the Revenue Canada Agency, Worker's Compensation Boards, Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Employment Insurance in the various jurisdictions
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement regarding sensitive or confidential issues and in providing information
  • Interpersonal skills combining active listening with effective communication, including ability to extract pertinent information and diplomatically present and maintain a decision
  • Ability to establish rapport with people and influence opinions, attitudes, or judgements; proven ability to dialogue effectively and build relationships
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with the employees and external agencies
  • Demonstrates information gathering skills used to find and identify essential information

Education & Experience

  • Degree, diploma, or payroll related certification is an asset
  • 3-5 years' experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits
  • Experience working with payroll and benefits in multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience working with UKG Workforce Management and Pro is an asset
  • Experience with business intelligence, KPI, or similar reporting processes as it relates to payroll and benefit reports
