The Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87 invites applications for a Payroll Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of payroll for the Municipal District of Bonnyville, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority and Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre including all necessary reporting and documentation to ensure compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Gather, track and review time records of employees for accuracy and proper categorization including project/equipment usage costing.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, as well as monthly payroll for Council.
- Adhere to deadlines in accordance with payroll policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Ensure staff records and supporting documents pertaining to new hires, terminations and changes are accurate and in accordance with payroll compliance, legislation, and collective agreements.
- Ensure accuracy of the payroll system and records for individual employees and make necessary changes.
- Maintain confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards.
- Ensure accuracy of accruals.
- Issue Records of Employment and assist with the preparation of T4’s and T4-A’s.
- Assist in the preparation and application of accounting standards to all financial matters such as reconciliations of payroll GLs, remittances and adjusting journal entries.
- Reconcile payroll reports and ensure applicable remittances are created.
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications:
- Completion of National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Professional Designation and be a member in good standing.
- Must adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct as set out by the National Payroll Institute/Payroll Standards Canada
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within a complex payroll environment.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in accounting and how it relates to payroll.
- Thorough knowledge of payroll compliance, legislation, and Alberta Employment Standard.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced strict deadline driven environment.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Excellent inter-personal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Avanti software will be a asset.
- Prior municipal government experience will be considered an asset.
- Ability to handle confidential material and protect it from disclosure.
- Excellent experience of Microsoft Office products.
- Provide a Driver’s Abstract if required.
