Job description

Your Opportunity:

This provincial, remote work position is your opportunity to become a key interdisciplinary team member of the new Alberta Virtual Chronic Pain Program (AVCPP) and impact the lives of over 900,000 Albertans currently living with Chronic Pain. Reporting to the Virtual Pain Program through the Strategic Clinical Networks, the Peer Support Worker (PSW) provides interventions and supports that complement the work of their clinician team members. Offering emotional and social support, the PSW assists individuals seeking Chronic Pain services who may share a common experience. Through your own lived experience with Chronic Pain and with pain management and resilience, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering coaching and mentorship, advocating for client needs, leading Peer Support group sessions, collecting health outcome data, and supporting an integrated and client-centered treatment experience. The PSW establishes responsive, culturally sensitive, and consultative relationships that enable trust and healing among peoples of diverse world views and approaches to health and healing. There is contact with service recipients and family through education, support, and advocacy; it is essential that the staff be able to maintain professional boundaries in their work and be respectful and honor the cultural diversity and spiritual beliefs of their clients. The PSW will support clients in being informed, empowered, offering hope and assistance in achieving better health outcomes, improved quality of life, and greater degrees of community integration. Unconditional positive regard for cultural and gender diversity and supporting peers in accessing services that are of meaning and assistance to their pain management is essential.
