DUTIES

The successful applicant will perform a broad variety of professional level analytical and governance related work to support the administrative and investment functions of the Memorial University Pension Plan.

Duties include performing research and analyses on a variety of pension issues and investment strategies (including traditional and alternative strategies) and developing related recommendations. The incumbent will liaise with the external fund custodian and multiple pension plan investment management firms for the purpose of exchanging information and providing coordination and direction related to the university's Pension Fund. Work includes auditing investment management fees and reconciling account balances, monitoring fund balances and investment mandates to ensure compliance with policy and contractual arrangements, completing industry surveys and investment manager due diligence documents, and participating in the selection, onboarding and, where applicable, the termination process for external investment management firms. Within the context of the University's investment policy, the incumbent will manage capital call funding and subscription balances, prepare monthly fund cash flows, and exercise sound professional judgment to re-balance and effectively manage the fund. Work will also include recommending, updating/developing, and implementing operational and investment policies. The incumbent will prepare the pension plan's Annual Report and other ad-hoc reports, write summary reports including recommendations, and develop and recommend pension communication strategies, participate on committees; and perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable related experience, including a minimum of 3-5 years of professional level experience in an institutional investment fund environment with preference to defined benefit pension plans. Graduation from a University degree program with major course work in business administration, investment analysis or mathematics, combined with completion of or enrollment in the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). Equivalent combinations of experience and training may be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the CSC and/or Chartered Financial Analyst designation. The successful candidate must demonstrate thorough knowledge of progressive and responsible investing practices, as well as pension legislative guidelines and pension plan governance strategies. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, communication, and report writing skills are required, as well as sound professional judgement and decision making skills. Where applicable, confirmation of permanent status will be contingent on successful completion of the CSC by the end of the probationary period.

SALARY $80,801 - $103,465 per annum (Management and Professional)
