Qualifications
- Experience in geriatrics and rehabilitation.
- Good physical and mental health and free from communicable disease.
- Certified in CPR and First Aid recommended.
- Medication Administration Course if giving out medications
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures.
- Unlicensed health care workers may give medications, provided they are trained and meet requirements of residence’s medication administration policy.
- Physical Demands:
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Pulling/pushing/lifting to relocate carts, residents requiring support to transfer, etc. up to 50lbs
- Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen.
- Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
- Speaking/communicating to individuals with impairments and disabilities.
- Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care
- Dexterity required/ability to use a keyboard, open pouches/blister packs, insert test strips into glucometers, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Provide care to all residents where necessary.
- Assist in planning and coordinating activities necessary in the nursing care unit.
- Work closely with Director of Care, Attending Physician, where necessary, Food Services and Activity/Recreation.
Job Description:
- Provide care, if applicable, in accordance with established policies, physicians order and nursing standards.
- Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys if responsible for medications administration.
- Responsible for administration of medications and treatments as ordered by residents' physicians within his/her limitations as set by the College of Nurses if care staff administers medication.
- Participates in staff development, safety quality assurance, environment and infection control programs.
- Deals courteously with staff, residents, resident families and visitors.
- Takes prospective residents and other interested persons on tours of the retirement residence if necessary.
- Completes daily, weekly and monthly duties as per policy.
- Assist with serving meals and supervise when necessary.
- Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
- Knowledgeable of the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Complete nursing documentation if applicable as per residence policies and guidelines.
- Answer call bells and assist where necessary.
- Assist residents with personal hygiene and bathing as per schedule and when necessary.
- Adhere to all established policies and procedures.
- Ordering and receiving medications, if applicable.
- Assist with arranging transportation for residents.
- Assist with monthly blood pressures and weights, as assigned.
- Teach good health habits.
- Assist residents with ambulation where necessary.
- Provide emergency first aid / nursing care until appropriate medical care is available.
- Assisting with admission and discharge of residents when required.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records for "extra charges" if applicable.
- Any other duties as delegated by the Director of Care.
- Aware of roles and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Light cleaning tasks.

Salary: From $18.00 per hour
