Job description

DanceBUG Inc. is assembling a team of SEASONAL Photographers to travel the country to shoot Dance Competitions, Recitals, and Workshops.

This is opportunity will be available from March through May.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Photograph 60-70 images per dancers’ performance with proper timing and composition.
  • Adjust white balance, exposure, focus, ISO, and other settings as required to maintain photo standards.
  • Setup in a strategic location in the venue (typically 20 ft from the stage).
  • Manage data (Import, Resize, Review, and Upload) via proprietary software on a company provided laptop.
  • Prepare a backup of the data onto a secondary drive (Passport Drive).
  • Ship data back to Head Office after each event.
  • Travel to events throughout the province.

Gig Requirements:

  • Min. of 3 years experience working as a Photographer. Experience shooting live-action/sports and in low-light environments is considered an asset.
  • Intimate knowledge of camera settings. Must be able to set white balance, exposure, focus, ISO, etc.
  • Comfortable using Windows based computers.
  • Experience with basic data management/transferring data from computer to secondary drives.
  • Willing to travel throughout the United States as required. (May need to travel on Thursday and Mondays)
  • Available to shoot Friday through Sunday and attend 2x 30 min meetings per week.
  • Able to work a 16 hour “Production Day”.
  • Hold a VALID CANADIAN Driver’s License.
  • Comfortable driving up to 2-3 hours.
  • Legally Authorized to work in Canada.
  • Comfortable being exposed to loud music and flashing lights.
  • Comfortable working from a stationary position (seated or standing) for long stretches of time (3-4 hours).
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders of all levels.

Equipment Requirements:

To qualify for this position, candidates must have the following equipment available to them for each event. No exceptions will be made. A $50 per event equipment stipend will be provided up to a maximum of $600 to offset wear and tear on personal gear used.

  • 2 x Professional Level DSLR/Mirrorless bodies
  • Lenses covering a range from 24mm-200mm with a MAX fixed aperture of F4.0
  • Min of 8 CF/SD cards (64GB + storage capacity)
  • Min 3 Camera Batteries + Battery Charger
  • Monopod/Tripod

Additional Information:

  • Due to the proximity to children at events, ALL candidates MUST be able to pass a Criminal background and Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Image file size is 8-10 MB.
  • Image Resolution is apx. 3552x2368.
  • Solos/Duets/Trios can be shot in Portrait or Landscape, Groups/Lines must be shot in Landscape.
  • Camera Bodies need to have good LOW LIGHT performance at ISO 6400 with excellent Auto Focus.
  • Training is PAID and consists of both “Classroom” style and In-Field training. This will take place in Jan/Feb.
  • All EXPENSES are COVERED – gas, parking, tolls, food, hotels, etc.
  • Each member of the team has their OWN HOTEL ROOM. NO sharing of hotel rooms is required.
  • Events range (typically) from 3-5 days. The average event is 4 days. Events may be longer.
  • DanceBUG services clients with events from coast to coast.
  • Typical event day is 7:00am-8:00am SETUP, 8:00am to 11:00pm SHOOTING, for a 16-hour day.
  • Opportunity for INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL to events in places like Australia, England, Costa Rica, Mexico, South Africa for those interested.
  • Availability is required/mandatory on the busiest weekends of the season. These weekends are;
