Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Supply Chain & Operations, the Plant Director, Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day processing operations of a large-scale indoor cannabis production facility; ensuring that all standard operating procedures, training requirements, schedules and policies are followed and that production goals are met in accordance with quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facility management, a deep understanding of the cannabis industry, and exceptional leadership skills.

Scope of Role:

  • Manage the production, harvesting, trimming, sanitation, processing and packaging activities within the facility to ensure optimal coverage and monitor overtime and holiday coverage
  • Coordinate the processes and supply needs for the facility with procurement
  • Provide guidance and support to Processing Operational Managers and Team Leads, providing organized direction on the day to day activities to ensure operational efficiency
  • Superior knowledge of the process flow for Sundial Grower’s operations
  • Ensure that safety and company policies are adhered to consistently and effectively
  • Proven experience in improving employee health and safety and workplace housekeeping
  • Provides leadership to team members implementing problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and quality working relationships
  • Manage compliance in accordance with Health Canada regulations
  • Provide expertise and guidance in the creation of and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ability to assess and improve the process flow within the facility to create Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs)
  • Participate in the facility expansion and new construction projects, including sourcing viable solutions
  • Provide support and advise HR when the need to hire facility staff arises
  • Follows Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and Good Practices and Procedures (GPP)

Knowledge and Experience: (Type and years of experience, education, training, special designation or background, licensing required to fulfill the duties of the position.)

  • Degree in related field of business, engineering or sciences is required, OR
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in and running a large production facility
  • Experience managing a large production team
  • Strong technical background including a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Proficient in MS Office and Excel
  • Cannabis industry experience preferred
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry is an asset
