Inclusion Canada is currently recruiting for a Policy Intern, Inclusive Housing – Summer Student Position. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a national organizational leading a social change movement, using research skills to advance inclusive and affordable housing for people with an intellectual disability. Working closely with senior staff, the Policy Intern, Inclusive Housing will conduct disability related research and analysis to help community stakeholders, governments, and the public gain a broader understanding of disability issues in the housing sector. The position is approximately 12 weeks at $18/hr.
Candidates Must:
Inclusion Canada has a distributed team and remote work is possible. However, the candidate must be a resident of New Brunswick or a First Nation community in New Brunswick. As funding is provided through the New Brunswick SEED program and Inclusion Canada, all candidates must:
· Be a resident of New Brunswick or a (must have lived in NB for at least 6 months) or a First Nation community in New Brunswick
· Be eligible to work in Canada, with a valid SIN
· Be a full-time university or college student in the current academic year of 2023-24 and be returning to post-secondary studies full-time in the fall of 2024.
Responsibilities:
· Conduct research and analysis in the area of inclusive and affordable housing for persons with intellectual disabilities
· Provide support in data gathering for policy reform
· Develop policy briefs on a variety of emerging priorities in the areas of disability rights in Canada
· Identify opportunities to advance Inclusion Canada inclusive and affordable housing policy priorities
· Assist in building knowledge exchange plans for existing research and reports
Requirements/competencies:
· Be a full-time university or college student in the current academic year of 2023-24 and be returning to post-secondary studies full-time in the fall of 2024
· A passion for social justice and equity issues
· Strong writing and editing skills and demonstrated ability to develop a diverse range of materials
· Research and analytical skills
· Attention to detail and strong follow-through
· Knowledge of the social justice sector, and particularly the disability sector
· Preference will be given to post-secondary students enrolled in a discipline relevant to community development or social justice.
