Job description

Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Port/Marine Terminal Operations Manager leads the field services team with the provision of stevedoring and related services at the Port of Argentia.

Your leadership qualities and your expertise in operations management will be put to full use in this leadership role, being responsible for operations at our marine terminal located in Argentia. You will plan, organize and coordinate ship loading and unloading operations as well as terminal operations and lead a team of superintendents and operational staff to meet operational targets in terms of health and safety, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, leadership and sustainable development.

Planning for each project, you will ensure that the required resources are available (material, equipment, labor) and efficiently deployed. You will follow up on daily activities, track operational performance against key performance indicators and bring continuous improvements to IL’s operational and administrative processes. Leading by example, you will pitch in and join forces with the operations teams when needed.

You will also be a major contributor to new project submission and act as a primary liaison between the internal team, clients, consultants, staff, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

Project Management

  • Performing project planning and budgeting activities
  • Coordinating materials and equipment along with determining and scheduling resources
  • On-boarding all parties in line with project plans effectively
  • Monitoring progress towards projects plans and operational performance measures and initiating actions to meet targets

Health and Safety

  • Ensuring operational site, facilities and equipments meets safety requirements
  • Providing the project safety statistics and information in project reporting, safety meetings, tool box talks etc.
  • Leading audits for safety and quality assurance

Leadership and operational support

  • Participating in the tendering of new projects, RFPs submission and customer relationships
  • Managing the labor pool, overseeing recruitment/labor sourcing, training and scheduling activities
  • Ensuring proper communication with staff, performance feedback as well as compliance with IL
  • values, policies, procedures and collective agreements.
  • Working closely with the superintendent, providing daily coordination and support

About You

You are an experienced leader, driven and highly organized, with a strong hands-on approach. Your experience profile includes the following:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in operations management, including staff supervision in a unionized environment preferably in manufacturing, mining, logistics or construction
  • Practical experience in the application of preventive measures in occupational health and safety, continuous improvement processes, supervision and project management
  • Working experience with rigging crane and lifting protocols
  • Demonstrated track record of improving operational efficiency while meeting/exceeding company/client’s needs
  • Experience with operating equipment/truck is an asset
