What is the opportunity? 

The Portfolio Advisory Group is a team of over 20 individuals at RBC Wealth Management who are responsible for providing independent investment advice and guidance to the 2000 investment advisors and their teams across RBC Dominion Securities. The investment advice is typically tied to asset allocation, active and passive solutions, responsible investing, individual equity and fixed income securities, and the management of a suite of model portfolios.

The Associate is an integral member of the team, helping drive the team’s daily thought leadership, servicing advisors and associates, and assisting the PAG team with a variety of investment related analysis and other special projects underway.  The role is surrounded by multi-asset, equity, and fixed income portfolio advisors as well as teams focused on practice management, and investment analytics that provide advisors with better capabilities around the construction and management of their client portfolios.

The ideal candidate has a diverse background, with an interest in developing their knowledge of the capital markets and investment management, very strong communication skills (written and verbal), and demonstrated an ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. A familiarity with a range of applications and technology would also be helpful, including Audacity, Adobe, Excel, FactSet, Bloomberg, Open Text, MorningStar and Python.

What will you do?

  • Help drive and deliver the team’s daily investment thought leadership – Morning and Mid-Day Notes, and daily Morning Conference Call.

  • Coordinate the posting to our intranet of all advisor facing and client-facing content created by the team.

  • Provide personalized and responsive service to Portfolio Managers, Investment Advisors, and Investment Associates with respect to incoming investment-related questions.

  • Support team members with adhoc analysis, projects, and commentaries.

  • Regularly assist and contribute to team’s content creation – written, presentations, and podcasts.

  • Develop investment knowledge through reading of vast amount of research and team’s own content.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher level education.

  • Excellent communicator, both written and spoken, and able to dissect complex ideas and concepts to provide clear, relevant, and timely summaries and insights.

  • Quick learner – in terms of team processes, procedures, and investment markets.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

  • Service oriented.

  • Proficiency in Excel.

Nice to Have

  • French communication skills (presenting, speaking, writing) could help differentiate candidates.

  • HTML publishing experience.

  • Experience with investment vehicles including mutual funds, ETF’s, SMA’s, equity and fixed income securities, and their uses in portfolio construction, risk management, and/or dealing with investment advisors and clients.

  • Proficiency with FactSet, Bloomberg, Tableau, VBA, R, Python, Open Text, Audacity, Adobe.
