Position Summary:
The Transportation Research at McGill (TRAM) research group, located within McGill University’s School of Urban Planning, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The postdoctoral researcher will report to lab director and principal investigator Prof. Ahmed El-Geneidy. The incumbent will be managing and coordinating various projects led by Prof. El-Geneidy but will be mostly concentrating on two federally funded projects. The first is a project titled ‘Getting Around to Age in Place: Meeting Older Canadians’ Mobility Needs via Public Transportation’; the second, consists of estimating the impacts of Montreal’s soon-to-be-launch Réseau express métropolitain (REM) light-rail. Among other things, the incumbent will help lead efforts to design and management online surveys, data collection, and analysis, and coordinate with partner organizations. The Getting Around to Age in Place project is funded by National Research Council of Canada (NRC), and the REM impacts project is funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research and (CIHR) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will participate in and help guide all activities related to the two projects. These will consist of, among other things:
  • Coordinating collaborator input and contributions to the study;
  • Planning and executing research activities, including literature reviews, the development of survey materials, data analysis, and assistance in the training and supervision of student researchers;
  • Preparing academic publications and research reports; and
  • Organizing meetings, training sessions, and public seminars.
Education and Experience:
The successful candidate must possess:
  • PhD awarded in the past 5 years in urban planning or engineering or geography or a related discipline with a concentration in transport.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant and report writing.
  • Demonstrate experience in quantitative data analysis with a publication record.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis using R
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English (French is an asset).
  • Excellent personal time management, project management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Understanding and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Term: one year (with possibility of extension for a 2nd year), commencing May 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Salary: $60,000/ year + conference travel + benefits + 15 days vacation
