We are seeking outstanding candidates to undertake cutting-edge research on microflows and environmental analysis. The postdocs will be a member of the Integrated microbioreactor laboratory at Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada. Our multidisciplinary approach will enable us to be the first to build a platform to investigate the interactions among water, nutrients, pollutants, and microbial communities at the soil-pore scale. We will also directly investigate interactions between micro-scale processes (microbial activity, pores, and stabilization) and macro-scale processes (flow rate, conversion rate, temperature, and pH).
Qualifications
A PhD or equivalent in environment, engineering, micrology or other closely related fields
-Expertise in microflows or microprocess modelling is essential with good understanding of biogeochemical or hydrological processes.
·-Strong skills and experience with data acquisition and analysis to design/implement experiments, data analysis, algorithms and database.
-Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Fortran or C
·-Good record of peer-reviewed scientific publication
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated and to efficiently deliver results on time
·-The below experience and ability would be advantageous but not essential: ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and some experience in analyzing experimental data;ability to analyze data as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment; experiences in experimental instruments (e.g. Laser Raman spectroscopy, GC-MS, microreactors).
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microprocesses, with experience in conducting lab testing and calibrations. The positions are fixed term for a period of 1-3 for the first time and subject to review every six months with possible renewable on mutual agreement. This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic and ambitious researchers to use state-of-the-art approaches to make an impact in a fast-moving field of research.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. The selection will begin consideration of applicants on February 1; the competition will remain open until suitable candidates are appointed. How to apply for these positions, send an email to Prof Junye Wang at junyew@athabascau.cawith a detailed CV along with a cover letter detailing your relevant experience, your interest for the position, rationale for your suitability, and name and address of three referees.
