Responsibilities
The Potato Research Agronomist is responsible for carrying out activities related to the evaluation of new varieties, conventional and bio-pesticides, plant growth regulators and fertilizers. Duties will include:
- Establish and maintain research trials.
- Use of variety of field equipment, including tractors, planter, hiller, cultivator.
- Supervise temporary staff.
- Apply test substances (using a tractor and sprayer or fertilizer spreader).
- Collect plant, tissue and soil samples.
- Collect, analyze, interpret and report research data.
- Make presentations at agricultural meetings.
Qualifications:
Ideally, this candidate will meet the following requirements:
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Soil Science or related discipline completed by start date.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of agricultural equipment operation and maintenance.
- Computer literacy – Microsoft Office Suite, statistical software.
- Knowledge of trial design and statistics.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a non-temporary basis.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as contributing to a team environment.
- Attention to detail, ability to problem solve.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
