Disclaimer: We are seeking funding for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs program which is a government funded program that offers paid summer employment for young Canadians to develop industry skills, knowledge, experience, and networking opportunities. We are currently hiring for our Canada Summer Job Grant Positions. We have three 12-week contract positions for 37.5 hours per week.

This individual will need to be able to work with all age groups 12m - 5 years, be flexible in scheduled shifts between 7am - 5:45pm. Must be available between 7am - 5:45pm Monday thru Friday, have current first aid certification, vulnerable sector check including a criminal record check, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide full immunization records as per Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

Preschool Helpers
(3 positions)
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations, and share responsibility for the children enrolled at our onsite preschool program.
  • Assist with implementing programs in accordance with curriculum objectives, supporting individual support plans, and maintaining a safe, routine based and organized environment.
  • Facilitate growth in all areas of development – social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional.
  • Assist and coach children in managing their feelings
  • Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the children in the center
  • Be aware of all allergies and serious medical conditions of children in the facility
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with children in care
  • Incorporate family’s lives, diverse backgrounds and culture into the environment and planning.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and respect for THRIVE at all times
  • Assist in celebrations and events held by THRIVE
  • Ensure that indoor and outdoor play environments are safe and clean
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times related to the information regarding staff and clients involved with HS McLellan.
  • To role model good behavior for children in the Center
  • Any other duty deemed appropriate by Professional Services Manager or Lead Teacher

Skills Preferred:
  • Experience working with children/youth who experience an intellectual disability and/or Autism an asset.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Aptitude to work independently and problem solve.
  • Ability to relate to participants in a professional and caring manner.
  • Willing to work flexible hours according to the varying requirements of the summer camp.

Qualifications:
Individuals must:
  • Preferred – Working towards a post secondary school diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants.
  • Provide a satisfactory criminal background check and vulnerable sector screen (CPIC)
  • Must be able to lift up to 11kg (25lbs), bend, crouch, climb, stand, walk and carry
  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is a job requirement
  • Provide proof of immunization records as per Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014

Period of Employment:
12 weeks starting June 3, 2024 - Monday to Friday
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

THRIVE Child Development Centre/Centre de développement de l’enfant is an incorporated, non-profit Children’s Treatment Centre made up of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, therapy assistants, early childhood educators, ABA Therapists and support staff. We provide inter-disciplinary pediatric rehabilitation, respite care, an on-site childcare program and resource support to community childcare centres in Sault Ste.
