The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Principal Engineer, Mining to join our Resource Management Group in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.
The Principal Engineer, Mining validates that all Vale Base Metals mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates are compliant with the Corporate guidelines and standards and respect S-K 1300 of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States as well as Canadian NI43-101 regulations. They also participate in the compilation of year-end mineral reserve and mineral resource estimates for consolidation in the Vale Annual Report, 20F filing document and other external reporting, and are involved in developing and maintaining Company guidelines and standards and carry out regular reviews and audits of the mineral reserve and mineral resource estimates and the estimation methods at Vale Base Metals Operations. Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- May act as a Corporate Qualified Person under SEC S-K 1300 for the mineral resources and mineral reserves stated under the direct management of Vale Base Metals.
- Reviews and audits mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates at all sulphide and laterite Operations and Projects on an annual basis.
- Supports reviewing and validating the overall Life of Operations Plans (LoOPs), including mining, geology, geotech, environment, licenses, economics, low-carbon plans, audits, and SEC and external regulatory requirements, seeking to achieve robust and feasible plans in all mining complexes.
- Provides guidance and training to the Operations and Project teams on the engineering aspects of the estimation and reporting of mineral resources and mineral reserves to ensure best estimates are used for earnings determination, including development of new processes to improve confidence in the estimates by area or depletion calculations.
- Develops, documents and communicates to Operation and Project management guidelines and standards. Prepare necessary strategy and execution plans and follow through to ensure that Vale Base Metals develops a quality assurance program for MRMR estimation and demonstration that this is a core competency of the company.
- Identifes MRMR issues and risks at Operations and work with exploration, project and Operations geology and engineering teams, to prioritize and provide technical support to systematically resolve them.
- Provides engineering and MRMR technical input and reviews at Project tollgate/maturity assessments.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering
- Registered P.Eng as Mining Engineer
Experience:
- 10+ years in mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation and reporting
- Minimum 5 years of experience in underground mining environments
- Experience working in open pit and laterite mining is considered an asset
Skills:
- Strong communication and decision making skills
- Knowledge of capital estimates, operating costs and financial models
- Experience with engineering/design software
- Exposure to technical reporting for public disclosure
- Ability to travel locally, nationally and globally 4-6 weeks per year
