We engineer solutions that keep the world moving by offering products and services to keep the world’s equipment, machinery, and vehicles in motion. At Standard Machine we design and manufacture high-quality parts for critical industries including pulp and paper, mining, oil and gas, chemical processing plants, steel mills, marine applications, transportation, military, and aerospace.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Industrial/Mechanical Engineer enhances the reliability of our equipment and systems through maintenance planning, capital evaluation, and risk assessment. This includes evaluating processes, equipment, and systems to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity can be achieved by integrating physical and decision-making capabilities of people with aspects of system design and equipment capability.
Key Responsibilities

-Develop Engineered Solutions

-Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise innovative engineering solutions aimed at improving equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
-Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed engineered solutions. Lead or participate in brainstorming sessions to generate and refine innovative engineering concepts tailored to meet specific operational needs.
-Coordinate prototype development and testing for new engineered solutions, ensuring adherence to design and manufacturing specifications
-Participate in the development of design and manufacturing specifications
-Determine asset availability forecasting using applicable software
-Utilize testing methodologies to isolate reliability issues
-Review and Analysis of Technical Specifications

-Review technical specifications outlined in Request for Quotations (RFQs) from clients or vendors.
-Assess the feasibility and compatibility of technical requirements with existing equipment and systems
-Analyze costs of production with a focus on reliability modeling
-Develop and implement changes that result in manufacturing process improvements
-Coordinate with the planning department to optimize workflow
-Create metrics to monitor schedule progress and identify/manage risk
-Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure alignment between client expectations and technical capabilities.
-Provision of competent engineering that maximizes asset and equipment efficiency

-Provide timely and accurate development, improvement, implementation, and evaluation of integrated systems of people, equipment, material, and processes which follow sound engineering principles to meet customer needs.
-Produce reports to justify analysis and results, demonstrating cause and effect
-Apply proven processes and methodologies within engineering analysis and reports
-Provides design and failure analysis in support of production.

-Resolves conflicts between design specifications and manufacturing capabilities.
-Provides timely and effective resolution of non-conformances when necessary.
-Provides knowledge base for translation of engineering principles to manufacturing
 
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate possesses the following education and competencies.
Education
style="margin-bottom:8.0px"-
-Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc. Eng)
-Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering majors preferred
-P. Eng. Designation in SK, BC, MB, ON, QC will be considered an asset
Competencies
style="margin-bottom:8.0px"-
-Demonstrated proficiency in industrial and reliability engineering pertaining to manufacturing
-Excellent written and verbal communications skills including conflict resolution
-Proven ability to lead projects and teams, demonstrating strong organization and communication skills
-Accuracy and expertise in failure analysis, software, and engineering processes
-Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes including metallurgy
-Experience using proven processes and methodologies such as 5S, FMEA, RAM, LCC, RCM, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
-Expertise in Algor and other Finite Element Analysis packages as well as the ability to develop software.
-Adaptive problem-solving techniques including developing new solutions through analytical, interpretative, evaluative, creative, and innovative thinking
