Are you looking for a challenging opportunity? We are currently recruiting for a Prisoner Escort Officer – Contract – Temporary As Required - 6 months with the possibility of future extensions working for the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in our Court Bureau.

The HRPS proudly supports the growing communities of Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills (Georgetown and Acton).

As a Prisoner Escort Officer – Contract – Temporary As Required, in our Court Services Unit, you will make a difference by providing prisoner transportation and court security at various police facilities and court locations within the Region of Halton on a relief basis. Duties will include searching, guarding, and controlling prisoners and providing security to court services.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen or legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Good moral character and habits
  • Has successfully completed at least four years of secondary school education (i.e. has achieved a High School Diploma) or its equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (minimum Class G) and a good driving record
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate

Current Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate.

  • Previous experience communicating with the public, dealing with a variety of situations, and resolving problems and responding, de-escalating difficult or crisis will be considered an asset.

You will also possess the following non-technical attributes:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal, teamwork, customer service, listening and problem solving skills
  • Able to adapt to a variety of situations

Work Schedule:

  • Must be willing and able to work short notice shifts, which include days, evenings, nights, and weekend shifts.

Location:

For this position, you will be expected to work in a variety of sites (i.e. courthouses and central lock up facility) throughout the Halton Region or other agencies/facilities on a regular basis.

Note: All successful applicants for this contract must obtain an OACP Certificate before starting their employment with HRPS.

Exceptions: Applicants who are currently employed as a Prisoner Escort Officer with another police service are not required to submit an OACP Certificate with their application package. However, applicants will be expected to participate and pass a fitness assessment at a later date.
