Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.


The Concentrator Team is responsible for processing the ore from the mines at site into a concentrate suitable for shipping and processing offsite.


The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.


Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.


We are currently seeking a Process Analystto join our Concentrator department in Voisey’s Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.


This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation
.


The Process Analyst is also responsible for carrying out QC checks on the production accounting sample systems and calibrating the on-stream analyzers to meet the needs of the operation. In cooperation with the Metallurgist, the Process Analyst also carries out test programs and surveys as part of a defined metallurgical development program.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide process monitoring and troubleshooting support to assist operators in running and optimizing the process;
  • Conduct bench-scale test work as part of a metallurgical development or investigation program;
  • Conduct plant-scale tests and sampling surveys in support of process optimization efforts and metallurgical development;
  • Assist the plant metallurgist in the development of process control and improvement strategies;
  • Check and prepare daily mill production accounting samples;
  • Collect and perform preparation of daily samples and monthly composites;
  • Carry out QA/QC checks on all sampling systems;
  • Perform gas testing for confined space entry and spill response, and ensure that all gas testing equipment is stocked, maintained and calibrated;
  • Calibrate the on-stream analyzers, perform minor maintenance on the units, and stock spare parts;
  • Provide temporary relief to the metallurgist for vacation.


About You

Education:

  • Process Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • 18 months experience in a mineral processing facility and/or lab-based role.
  • Must be able to perform standard laboratory procedures correctly and efficiently.
  • Prior experience and skill in the use of mass balancing software such as Bilmat™ would be beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets in Excel.
