Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Production Area Coach to join our Pressure Oxidative Leach department in Long Harbour, NL. This is a permanent position.

This permanent position will be on a 12-hour shift on site in Long Harbour, NL.

The Coach is responsible for the overall performance, delivery, and development of the crew in meeting the organizational objectives based on the needs of the business stakeholders in alignment with Vale Vision, Mission & Values and the Long Harbour Operations Purpose & Principles. The Coach acts as a director, initiator, mentor, and supporter to the crew as it progresses and develops through different phases of capability. The Coach will align the behaviors of the crew with Vale's principles and attributes. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Ensure Home Safe behaviors are integral in all crew member activity. Coaches’ crews to consistently achieve ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) and to take corrective action to address noncompliance.
  • Develop the crew to become self-sufficient in operating and maintaining the day-to-day operations, while ensuring that all regulations/standards, company and organizational concepts and philosophies.
  • Set expectations and hold people accountable for Core Value compliance (HSE/PSM, Ethics & Respect for People) and model the appropriate behavior.
  • Utilize and audit the work practices under Work Management to approve, plan, schedule and execute tasks within the area(s).
  • Ensure that the crew understands training expectations and progression requirements.
  • Provide business direction to the crew and develop the crew's business acumen.
  • Create a work environment that generates ownership and initiative in crew members that are actively engaged and understand their role in sustaining the core processes.
  • Create a work environment where the crew is self-motivated to achieve targets, displays personal ownership and takes accountability for actions and performs to expectations.
  • Train the crew to identify non-conformance and other sub-standard conditions in the plant, use problem solving tools, programs and follow procedures to implement corrective action and continual improvement.
  • Provide, as required, Shutdown guidance in areas as assigned through the Maintenance Planning Superintendent
  • Participate in emergency and breakdown situations as required, drawing on external resources only as necessary, by providing troubleshooting, problem identification, materials procurement, and resource allocation knowledge as required to correct the situation as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimize production impact within the framework of established maintenance policies and procedures.


About You

Education:

  • High School Graduate
  • Post secondary education within a related field preferred.


Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Industrial and/or operating environment preferred.
  • Previous metallurgical knowledge and experience an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.


Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Supervisory, leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent communication and team building skills.
