Job description

As Project Control Specialist, you will be responsible for the analysis and forecasting of project costs related to the National Shipbuilding strategy gap closure plans. You will also collect and report costs and performance data for management review and provide support to the Project management office in all cost aspects of the project. More specifically, you will:

  • Define cost baselines, manage changes to the control budgets, monitor and control incurred costs, forecast estimates at completion and produce reports that satisfy CDCI and client requirements up to and including the final project closeout cost report;
  • Work in close cooperation with the Project Control Manager in order to make sure that he is aware of the progress, performances, budget’s health, change orders and any risks related to the project;
  • Develop performance indicators (cost analysis);
  • Complete a comprehensive budget analysis compared with actual costs of the project;
  • Make sure that internal control systems exist and that they are implemented during various stages of the project, according to the company’s standards;
  • Make sure that the shipyard’s change orders are recorded and tracked efficiently;
  • Identify cost reduction initiatives and support estimating for creating norms;
  • Provide general support to any process improvement and yard-wide initiative;
  • Ensure compliance with laws and all specific local requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering or any relevant training in project management;;
  • At least five (5) years experience in cost controls (Project Control / cost engineering);
  • Advanced experience with Earned Value Management and project management software;
  • Experience in naval industry or on major infrastructure projects;
  • Advanced understanding of cost engineering best practices;
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office with a focus on MS Excel;
  • Organization and time-management skills-able to meet deadlines;
  • Strong collaboration skills, get-it-done attitude and team spirit;
  • Successful completion of the investigation and security clearance process required by the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
