Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving the education needs of

Elk lsland Public Schools Central Administration building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the division, Central administration is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include: Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students, and Information Technologies.

Facility Services, is home to approximately 36 of our EIPS employees.

Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a Term Certain Project Manager with Facility Services.

Commencing March 1, 2023 to March 1, 2024

37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday- 7.5 hours per day)

The Project Manager is accountable for managing various projects within the Division. Projects are performed in collaboration with all other departments and relevant stake-holders to ensure all aspects of each project is completed as needed to fulfill client needs. The Project Manager responsibility includes the coordination and completion of projects on time, within budget and scope. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors and summarizes progress of projects and prepares status reports accordingly. Enhances department reputation by accepting ownership and executing and successfully accomplishing projects assigned. Exploring opportunities to add value to project assignments. Projects are to be managed with a focus on safety and in accordance with all legislated regulations and guidelines.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review requests and liaise with clients to establish full scope of facilities requirements.
  • Visiting sites and liaising with other department staff to determine requirements.
  • Evaluating requirements to ensure effective and efficient utilization of facilities.
  • Considering alternative methods to meet requirements.

- Analyzing whether project design should be done in-house or by outside consultants and making a recommendation to the Assistant Director - Projects and Planning, Facility Services.

  • Reviewing all pertinent codes to ensure compliance of proposals.

- Assist the Assistant Director - Projects and Planning, Facility Services in the consultant (Architects, Engineers) selection process, as assigned, following Elk Island Public Schools policies and procedures.

  • Assume the role as a resource person on the project team.
  • Engaging consulting services to obtain design and cost estimates, as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of consultant’s contracts for execution by the Elk Island Public Schools.
  • Collect and catalogue all pertinent facility property records for the department.
  • Ensure facility property records are maintained in an up-to-date, logical, readily accessible manner to include facility drawings, specifications, technical data, studies, reports and proposals.
  • Prepare estimates for budgets.
  • Review construction cost estimates from consultants.
  • Liaise with school administration with respect to specific projects within schools.
  • Attend meetings as an Elk Island Public Schools representative.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Graduate from a recognized post-secondary school of Technology in either Architectural or Building Construction Technology.
  • Certification as a Technologist or equivalent certification in a construction trade.
  • Professional development in project management such as successful completion of a related certificate program.
  • Minimum years of related experience is seven.
  • Experience in design, preparation of working drawings and specifications and project management of building projects and lease hold improvements.
  • Basic computer skills with computer aided drafting (CAD) and project management scheduling software preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Driver’s License.
