Who we are and what we do:

West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients recover by providing inpatient, outpatient, and outreach services in specialized rehabilitation and complex care after a life-altering illness, disease, or injury such as lung disease, amputation, stroke, and musculoskeletal trauma.

What’s ahead:

This year is an exciting year for West Park as our 27-acre site will be transformed into an integrated campus of care, including a new hospital building and additional community supports such as assisted living for persons with disabilities and seniors.

This transformation enables the Centre to evolve its rehabilitative programs and strengthen links to community-based services to meet the future healthcare needs of our local community and the province. West Park is embarking on two major capital projects to bring together specialized rehabilitative, complex continuing, primary and long-term care and independent living opportunities.

Position Overview:

The Prosthetic/Orthotic Technician provides technical expertise in the design and creating “prosthetics” and “orthotic” devices and their components with a focus on achieving optimal fit, functionality, aesthetics, and craftsmanship.

Accountabilities:

· Manufacture a wide range of prosthetic and orthotic devices while ensuring patient safety and high quality by following prescriptions provided and manufacturer recommendations.

· Trouble-shoot devices that are not working optimally by diagnosing and servicing the componentry.

· Advise clinical staff of fabricating options (cosmesis, strength of device and suitability) by utilizing information gathered from manufacturers of materials/components and comparison studies.

· Develop and maintain fabricating skills and procedures through continuing education.

· Instruct and supervise work term students and volunteers by providing guidance and support.

· Provide back-up coverage to Senior Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician during planned absences and as required.

· Assist in the promotion of the department as directed by manager.

· Perform any other duties at the manager’s request that are deemed relevant to the position.

Key Qualifications:

· Graduate of an OPC recognized technical Prosthetic and Orthotic program is required

· OPC registered preferred

· Ability to work as a member of a team

· Ability to work with your hands

· Demonstrated ability to meet production timelines

· Evidence of commitment to continuous education

· Good communication and organizational skills

· Strong technical aptitude

· Basic computer skills
