Your Opportunity:

This position plays a lead role in the investigation of environment-related communicable diseases and outbreaks, the follow up of animal bites and other disease control matters. Maintains and evaluates an epidemiological database on all investigated cases of illness to assist in identifying sources and exposure routes. Reports to Alberta Health and Wellness on notifiable diseases and implements effective control measures to prevent the spread of illness. Assists in outbreak management in the Environmental Health Program. Applies epidemiological principles and statistical analysis to the data collected in order to prepare reports and offer guidance in the management of communicable diseases that fall within the Environmental Health. Follows up on animal exposures, works closely with the Medical Officer of Health, Provincial vet and others to ensure timely and effective response to animal exposures. Responds to and investigates instances of suspected foodborne illness and works collaboratively with the area inspector on follow up. Further it is expected that the incumbent maintains a small inspection district with a focus on social care facilities. Location is negotiable within Central Zone.

Description:

As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental Public Health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of Public Health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental Public Health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).

Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years of communicable disease control experience. A keen and demonstrated interest in Communicable Disease Control. Excellent communication skills. Previous experience with CDOM, Netcare, Connect Care, and similar systems.
