Position Title:Public Rates Analyst
Reports To:Director, Portfolio Management
Department:
Public Investments
Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is looking for an experienced Public Rates Analyst to contribute to the asset management process. This position will contribute to the interest rate strategy across both total return and asset liability mandates through interest rate analysis and economic forecasting.

What you will be doing:

  • Monitor and report on key interest rate influences and how they relate to the duration and curve positioning strategy across the total return portfolios. Key influences include Central Bank communications and related monetary policy changes, fiscal policy changes, and key economic data.
  • Monitor liability exposure and recommend timing of asset deployment to hedge risk.
  • Contribute to the development of macro-economic and interest rate strategies.
  • Continue development of enhanced duration and curve positioning tools to track interest rate exposures.
  • Support the execution and tracking of the Company’s derivatives positions (both interest rates and currency).
  • Execute trades within policy limits and trading authority.
  • Attend interest rate focused events as a representative of Equitable, as required.


What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Commerce, Finance, or Math.
  • Working towards obtaining a professional designation (e.g. CFA, CIM)
  • 1 to 2 years of investment related experience with a strong interest in investments (interest rate analysis would be an asset)
  • Bloomberg knowledge required
  • Excellent command of MS Excel (knowledge of VBA and other programming languages is an asset), Word and PowerPoint required
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem solving skills & organizational skills
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to concisely relay information.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated capability to work independently.
