PURCHASING AGENT/BUYER

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL

JOB DESCRIPTION:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Purchasing Agent/Buyer on behalf of our client, Calibre, Valentine Gold Mine. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience with the procurement of materials and services in an industrial setting (Mining preferred).

Reporting to the Procurement Superintendent the Purchasing Agent/Buyer is responsible for providing support in purchasing materials, equipment and services for operations, aiming to assure the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible. Achieving industry best practice standards of delivery time and quality of products and services.

This position works Monday to Friday from the Grand Falls-Windsor office with ad-hoc travel to the Project site.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Negotiate, renegotiate, and issue Purchase Orders to suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  • Guided by total cost of ownership principles, procure the highest quality materials at the lowest possible cost in correct amounts as per specifications and drawings supplied by the internal customer (operations).
  • Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, deliveries, product performance and inventories.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities and the supplier's reputation and history.
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and determine needs for changes.
  • Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, and review requisitions for goods and services.
  • Manage Back Orders in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are completed in accordance with Valentine Gold Mine Procurement Policies and Procedures and driven by Calibre core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post secondary education required.
  • Proficiency in inventory software ERP systems, databases, and systems.
  • SAP experience is considered an asset.
  • SCMP designation & member of the SCMA would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience with the procurement of materials and services in an industrial setting (Mining preferred)
  • A combination of Education and experience may be considered.
  • A valid driver’s license and drivers abstract required.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment. Exceptional ability to effectively deal with a variety of stakeholder requests and issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Basic knowledge of all areas of procurement including:
  • Procurement execution
  • Estimating
  • Expediting
  • Offsite supplier quality, and
  • Site purchase
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • ERP- Procurement & Inventory Modules.
