Job description

QC Laboratory Technician

Arbec Forest Products Inc. is looking for a Laboratory Technician at its Miramichi plant. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, the incumbent performs tests at different levels of the production process on a regular or irregular basis in order to ensure quality control product.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and standards for safety, environment, quality, cost control and waste reduction.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on all equipment and tools.
  • Ensure proper use of required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Evaluate the quality of the product and flag any data regarding defects or anomalies.
  • Investigate any identified anomalies or deficiencies to identify root cause.
  • Make recommendations to address quality issues.
  • Collaborate with various departments with regards to production changes.
  • Identify, record, and isolate product for re-verification.
  • Ensures that operators conduct their recommended adjustments for proper functioning of production line and required product quality.
  • Provides for the receipt of the raw material and ensures quality control of important chemicals (resin and wax) and materials.
  • Work in collaboration with other departments to develop and certify new products and processes.
  • Closely monitor machines for signs of problems while ensuring product quality.
  • Undertake any other tasks as requested by the Technical Services Superintendent or designate.

Job Requirements

  • University/College in forestry/quality or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of related industrial experience.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Detail oriented and ability to ensure accuracy.

Work Conditions

  • Exposure to hazards associated with the industry/trade.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Operation of desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Operation and use of necessary tools, machinery, or equipment.
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions.
