Position Overview: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented QC and Shop Coordinator to join our team. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the QC and Shop Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fabrication shop. This position involves managing critical documentation, assisting in work package creation, and supporting data collection with a specific focus on Piping Quality Control. A fundamental requirement is the ability to interpret and comprehend piping drawings.
Position Location:Please note, this position is required for our Onoway, Alberta location. Must be willing and able to commute.
Shift Details: 4, 10 hour days - Monday to Thursday. Occasional Fridays and weekend work may be required dependent upon company projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Document Management:
- Handle document transmittals, ensuring the accurate and timely exchange of project-related documents.
- Maintain a well-organized filing system for drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
- Assist in document control procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Effectively track and manage RFI’s from Production to Client
2. Shop Drawing Approvals:
- Review and assess shop drawings to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate with quality and fabrication teams to address any discrepancies or needed revisions.
- Facilitate the approval process for shop drawings and maintain records of approvals.
3. Work Package Assistance:
- Support the creation of work packages, including compiling necessary documents, drawings, and instructions.
- Collaborate with project teams to coordinate work package execution.
4. Data Collection and Tracking:
- Assist in collecting data related to project progress, including man-hours (time tracking to project numbers), materials, and equipment usage.
- Work closely with the project management team to track costs and progress against project plans.
- Generate reports and updates for the Superintendent and project stakeholders.
- Work with QC department on submissions and tracking of load paperwork.
- Work with production and project management to identify gaps that may result in impacts to shop production, and work to resolve with project management.
5. Piping Drawing Interpretation:
- Possess the ability to read and understand piping drawings, including P&IDs, isometric drawings, and fabrication drawings.
6. Project Coordination:
- Attend client meetings as required
- Act as the communication liaison between Projects, QC, and Production
- Consolidate and create reports for internal and client reporting.
- Understand and track inch completion for shop production.
- Provide notification to the Projects department on COR’s or potential impacts to be submitted.
- Work with production to understand and provide pricing on CORs related to fabrication.
Qualifications:
- Preferred educational background(s); a CWB Level 1 Inspection Certificate or, a diploma in Materials Engineering Technology (MET), Or Civil Engineering Technology (CET) or, a Journeyman Ticket in Pipefitting or Welding.
- Previous experience in document control, shop coordination, QC coordination or a related role in pipe fabrication.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending piping drawings, including P&IDs and isometrics.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
