Job description

Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Quality Assurance Technical Advisor to support QA/QC of hydro-electric turbine generator overhaul project work in and around Mattawa, Ontario. This position requires onsite project support.

Salary: $95,000-$129,000/year (based on experience)

Who You Are

A junior to mid-level Mechanical Engineer with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience; a mid-level to senior Mechanical Technologist with 10 years of experience or a Millwright with an Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion and 10 years of experience working on maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of rotating equipment is also applicable. Preference will be given to those who have already obtained (or able to obtain) their P.Eng licensure. Those with prior construction or site quality management experience may also be applicable.

Knowledgeable: Familiarity with inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality control reports (QCRs), and non-conformity reports (NCRs). Prior experience with commissioning and management of issued for construction drawings (IFCs) is a plus. Prior experience with rotating equipment is necessary with preference given to experience with hydro-electric equipment.

Technically and Organizationally Focused: Must be detailed-oriented. Proficiency in comprehension of procedural detail and tolerances. Proficiency in compilation and filing of QCR's, both electronically and in hardcopy "Control Binder" format. The ability to work effectively with trades, engineers, managers, and cross disciplinary teams. Highly productive and task-oriented with excellent attention to deadlines and deliverables.

Communication and other skills: Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be an excellent listener and a skilled collaborator. Proficient computer skills (word, excel, adobe, sharepoint, teams, etc.). Ability to work autonomously with a strong work ethic, as this position is located at a remote location without direct supervision. Adaptability, analytical thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills are a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.

About the Position

The Quality Assurance Technical Advisor is responsible for oversight and monitoring of the quality inputs and outputs of a hydro-electric turbine and generator overhaul program as it applies to the Project Quality Management Plan for Kleinschmidt Associates - Canada, and all partners of the I2PD (Industrial Integrated Project Delivery) Model, for the Overhaul Program. This position will work within multiple disciplinary team environments to ensure proper application with respect to procedures, inspection, and test plans (ITP's), and quality control reports (QCR's) and the site division of responsibilities. Some of these responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Following the procedures as set forth in the manuals and specifications, ensure completion of all associated QCR's with appropriate witnessing of all ITP steps.
  • Review all incoming QCR's with applicable subject matter experts for acceptability and conformance to procedural expectations and relative tolerances.
  • Provide some oversight and monitoring of inspections and installation of all piping as related to turbine, generator and instrumentation piping and tubing, as per the piping ITP and QCR's.
  • Create, track and follow-up on non-conformity reports (NCR's) from identification of deviation, through dispositioning to corrective action and closure.
  • Ensure all Issued for Construction drawings (IFC's) for electrical, turbine and generator refurbishment and installation are current and available at site as "Working Copy" for trades use.
  • Ensure all revisions or modifications to IFC drawings are captured by red and green line procedures.
  • Ensure all red/green lined IFC's are transferred to engineering for revision to as-built drawings and eventually record drawings.
  • Participate in transferring all record documentation from the project to the owner at the completion of each unit overhaul.
  • Compile, track and follow-up on deliverables not completed during the outage window in a punch List with reference to deliverable item, reason for not being complete, corrective action, responsible person assignment and target completion date.
