As the Quality Assurance Technician, you will ensure the laboratory data generated by Water Quality and Regulatory Assurance (WQRA) is in compliance with the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) as per the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. Primary duties include:
- Ensure consistent implementation of the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures throughout WQRA (i.e., review of control charting, method validation, conduct internal assessments, solution prep, maintain Proficiency Testing programs, traceability, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and other processes).
- Champion all QA/QC and ISO related programs and initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement in the QMS.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline and at least 3 years experience working in analytical chemistry in a water utility or environmental laboratory.
- At least 1 year experience in laboratory QA/QC practices, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), NWA quality analyst system, familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 Standard and Canadian Association of Laboratory Accreditation (CALA) policies is required.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the processes of water and/or wastewater treatment plants, distribution systems, water sampling and laboratory safety practices is required.
- Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or provincial equivalent.
- Experience with the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories Protocol for Estimating Measurement Uncertainty Using QC Data (Type A) will be considered an asset.
- Strong demonstrated collaboration, brainstorming, and time management skills.
- Ability to influence without authority with sound understanding of laboratory, sampling and testing methodologies.
