Overview:
Reporting to the Lafarge WCAN Innovation Hub manager, the Quality Control Engineer is responsible for providing daily guidance and support to the Lab Technicians to ensure they are safely and efficiently performing daily responsibilities The position is also expected to be a contributor in Value Added Product mix design methods and procedures.
This position is part of the Lafarge WCAN Innovation Hub Team. This team supports Lafarge customers though New Product Development (NPD), innovative customer solutions and customer support across Western Canada.
Responsibilities:
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the lab when performing lab duties including preparing and running lab/plant formulation trials, cylinder/beam preparation, testing & data logging.
  • Responsible for implementing and managing the Quality Management System and lab accreditation with CCIL or other.
  • Technical expertise on concrete, aggregate and cement technology
  • Communicates knowledge and tools to lab staff that arrive from the Holcim Research (HIC) knowledge and tools
  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures including the tracking of resources
  • Assists with the collection, analyses and distribution of lab results including but not limited to report writing, issuing of product test reports/certificates.
  • Selects & validates raw materials in accordance with the transfer tool kit and local specifications and standards
  • Ensures all tests are conducted in accordance with applicable standards and internal Lafarge test protocols
  • Prepares, organizes and gives product knowledge training sessions, development updates and demonstrations (employees, customers and product users)
  • Prepares and performs formulation tests that support the creation, development and improvement of new and existing standard, premium, performance and specialty mixes
  • Provides VAP training at the plant and market level as required


Qualification Profile
Education
  • Graduate of an engineering degree program (Geo-science, Civil, Materials, Chemical or equivalent)
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or working towards accreditation

Experience and Skill Set:
  • At least 1 years work experience in the laboratory testing of cement, concrete or aggregate products (mix designs, preparation of test samples etc). Or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in concrete mix design development and performance evaluation.
  • Experience of working with CSA A23, A3000 ASTM standards related to construction materials.
  • Accomplished cement, concrete and aggregate technology knowledge.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining a laboratory and supervising the workload of lab technicians.
  • Experience in analyzing/reporting results and maintaining records.
  • Experience in maintaining a lab and seeing through audits for CSA/CCIL/CCRL/ASSHTO/ISO accreditation or equivalent.
  • Experience of preparing, implementing and managing a Quality Management System.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Database software.
  • This role will require physical labour working with cements, aggregate, concrete and equipment.
