Job Title: Quality Systems Supervisor

About the opportunity:

The Quality Systems Supervisor is responsible for the daily approval and release for sale of packed product based on compliance with approved specifications, as well as the daily verification of the product process sheets. The Supervisor directs the Quality Technicians and ensures adequate, daily Quality coverage for all production processes to confirm product quality for in-process samples and packed product. The Supervisor assists production in conducting root cause analyses involving product quality. The position is responsible for the proper functioning of all lab equipment and processes, and implements, monitors and maintains the PQMS, HACCP, SQF, Sanitation GMP and other plant-based Quality Systems.

The attributes we are looking for:

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Lactalis Quality Management System (PQMS). Provide training to manufacturing personnel, ensuring their support of and compliance to the quality programs. Prepare, review and approve controlled documentation. Maintain the internal quality audit program by coordinating audits and following corrective actions through to completion. Maintain the Change Management and Continuous Improvement databases to ensure activities are properly documented for audit purposes. Where applicable develop, implement, and maintain FSSC program. Act as an SQF Practitioner to ensure program remains current and meets applicable FSSC standards.
  • Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by being a role model in safety and demonstrating due diligence through applying the corporate health & safety program elements. These focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Where necessary, take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold Lactalis's cardinal and other safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources to address any hazardous conditions or unsafe employee conduct.
  • Manage or assists the Quality Manager in managing the Quality department budget as well as monitoring results (actual vs. plan) on an on-going basis. Proactively manage the cost of poor quality such as downgrades or out-of-specification product and work with the production department to troubleshoot and determine appropriate corrective actions. Continuously improve upon First and Second Pass, and Keeping Quality measures
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring adherence to CFIA’s regulatory programs (HACCP/FSEP/DIEM). Act as the plant’s primary liaison with the CFIA, ensuring that all government regulatory requirements are being met. Lead efforts to ensure external regulatory audits are successful and that any recommendations from the audits are completed in a timely manner and above acceptable levels.
  • Where applicable provide leadership and supervision to Quality staff by directing workflow, providing performance feedback, and making recommendations for training and development. Promote a positive labour-management relationship, including efforts to continuously improve the team culture and to establish high levels of employee involvement.
  • Manage Quality department SAP functions. Ensure accurate data entry and timely release of finished product. Manage out-of-specification finished products to ensure proper notification and distribution.
  • Participate in the development of new or existing products and the introduction of new technology by performing evaluations, on-site inspections and validations to ensure government and internal regulatory requirements are being met.
  • In collaboration with Customer Service, Sales and Production, respond to customer and consumer complaints by trending results to implement preventative action plans with the plant
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and managers to review and update all quality programs (including policies, SOP’s and records/forms) on a regular basis.
  • Assist the Quality Manager/Plant Manager to monitor and maintain, in combination with the Production department, the cleaning and sanitation programs including the sanitary maintenance procedures
  • Conduct routine compositional settlements of all incoming and outgoing loads. Work collaboratively with the Finance Department and Customer Service to ensure all analysis and paperwork is completed for outgoing shipments, in-process transfers, and downgraded product.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor degree in dairy science or in a related discipline
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Quality Control / Assurance, preferably in dairy manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance programs such as GMP, HACCP and ISO
  • Strong team facilitation / leadership skills with a commitment to team development
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong decision making skills to identify and solve problems in a timely and effective manner
