Reporting to the Head of Raw Materials & Purchasing, the Raw Material Buyer will be responsible for supporting strategic sourcing development and ensure effective implementation of sourcing strategies specific to the pea category area; selection of suppliers, delivery of savings goals, promoting supplier relationship management programs, and managing partnerships with select key strategic suppliers.

The Raw Material Buyer position is a one-year term and will be part of a cross-functional team with Innovation, Category Marketing, and Sales Channels.

This job opportunity is located in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with the opportunity of flexible work arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Recommend and oversee supplier relationships at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Foster a Total Cost of ownership mindset with a view on long-term value.
  • Support segmentation of supply base and ensure delivery of sourcing strategies.
  • Gain stakeholders approval centrally and regionally.
  • Facilitate short-term RFP’s and spot buy needs when necessary.
  • Assist with the implementation of long-term sourcing strategies.
  • Support commercial / contractual discussions both internally and externally.
  • Develop commodity price risk management strategies by closely monitoring external market conditions, adjust price risk management strategies as needed, and articulate various commodity price risk management strategies to stakeholders.
  • Track progress of savings initiatives and performance of respective categories with the team.
  • Foster relationships which key suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and address supplier issues as needed.
  • Stay current of hedging practices and price risk management tools.
  • Provide close support and collaboration with Operational Procurement Teams
  • Ability to escalate point for suppliers’ quality issues as needed.
  • Provide price and cost forecasting for responsible categories (monthly: Latest Estimate and Commodity Market Committee)

Specific requirements

  • Understand and respect the Roquette rules concerning safety, quality, hygiene and the environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the Roquette Pea processing plant and its operations.

Functional competencies

  • Basic understanding of production agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
  • Proficient in sourcing, negotiation, pricing and also in supplier (producer) performance management.
  • Demonstrated high degree of integrity, trust and reliability; ability to develop and sustain professional internal and external working relationships consistent with Roquette Canada Ltd. values.
  • Understanding of commodity exchange traded price risk management instruments (futures, options, swaps) and how they can be used to mitigate commodity price risk for the company.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of personal initiative and accountability
  • Positive, effective and persuasive communication and coordination skills to build mutually beneficial working relationships.
  • Strong analytical/ problem solving skills to make fact-based decisions with a proactive approach to providing solutions and generating ideas.
  • Understanding business implications and cost drivers related to underlined feed stocks.
  • Awareness of cost drivers across multiple classes of cost.
  • Ability to creatively resolve moderate to complex problems.

Technical Applicative competencies

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficient in Microsoft Office/Outlook
  • Experience utilizing Strategic Sourcing tools and processes.
  • Ability to analyze information and provide fact-based recommendations.

Education

  • BS or BA degree in business or related, CPM/CPIM a plus.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years in corn/grain purchasing.

Business Trips (Percentage): 40%
