Job description

Creekside Landing is a unique campus of care that offers aging couples, seniors, and friends — whose individual care needs differ greatly — the ability to continue to live together in proximity. The campus provides a safe, supportive home and 24-hour nursing care for seniors who can no longer live independently, whether due to physical or cognitive issues.

We have expanded our Creekside Landing location in Vernon to include the newly constructed Osprey Court, opening in February and located just a hop, skip and jump (literally!) over Vernon Creek. This new, state of the art, modern facility will be residence to 96 seniors. We are looking for dedicated and passionate Activity Aides to support our residents in making choices that promote independence, enhance their lives, and enable them to age with dignity.

Who You Are

You are energetic, upbeat, and personable; a team player that works fluidly with residents, families, and colleagues every step of the way.

You can work independently as well as take direction, be flexible, and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.

Your communication skills are solid; able to effectively share and receive information both verbally and in writing.

You are passionate about resident care and will go that extra mile to put a smile on our residents faces.

What You Will Do

  • Set up, facilitate, and clear recreation programs, including, but not limited to: Bingo, Storytime, Bean Bag Toss, Chair Yoga and more. Working either independently, or as a team.
  • Conduct satisfaction surveys after each program and record feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Update the residence’s dining room wall calendars and activity postings.
  • Participate in the seasonal decorating of the Home’s environment while keeping common areas organized and tidy.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communication with Residents, team members, family member/significant others, contracted service providers, etc.
  • Ensure all appropriate steps are taken to maintain and encourage optimum Resident participation in the scheduled programs.
  • Communicate with Residents, family member/significant others, employees, etc. via one-on-one or group meetings, written documentation, etc.
  • Generate and express enthusiasm and commitment for the Home’s social and recreational programs.
  • When necessary, share information regarding observed changes in cognitive/functional abilities in a timely manner to the Activity Coordinator, LPN, RN, Director of Care.
  • Maintain clear, concise, accurate and timely documentation of Resident observations and program participation, etc.

Your Qualifications – The Must Have’s

  • Therapeutic Recreation diploma, Activity Assistant Certificate or equivalent is required
  • Patience, kindness, compassion, and the ability to work collectively with your colleagues
  • Ability to organize your workload and accomplish the day’s objectives
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • FOODSAFE Level 1 and/or Serving it Right
  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations (2 minimum)

What we offer

  • A safe, fun working environment in a quiet residential setting, working along side a fantastic group of likeminded individuals
  • A competitive compensation package, including extended health and dental care benefits, life insurance and vision care (full time)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement
  • Employee Recognition Program
  • Flexible schedule (casuals)
  • Focus on a positive work-life balance
