Recreation Coordinator

The Recreation Coordinator reports to the General Manager. The Recreation Coordinator works as an active team member providing support to residents which may include assistance with daily living. The Recreation Coordinator will help to maintain an organized, sanitary program environment, and ensure that daily supplies for programs and activities are maintained and organized

• Demonstrated proficiency in the ability to resolve contentious or sensitive issues, or situations involving conflict resolution.
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
• Demonstrates a strong desire to serve and care for seniors/older adults encouraging participation in recreational activities including the provision of one-on-one support when necessary.
• Resident-centered approach to care, as well as an awareness of the potential for cognitive changes to occur.
• Professional, open, friendly, team player, responsive and positive
• Able to apply tact, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Trustworthy, reliable and dependable.
• Shows initiative and commitment to excellence
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.

Experience/Training/Education and Work Record:

• Diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies and/ or Gerontology is required.
• 1-3 years’ previous experience working as a Recreation Coordinator in the field of dementia care is preferred.
• Previous volunteer experience in some capacity; within the field of seniors’ healthcare.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a flexible, resilient environment to meet the needs of the residents.
• Energetic, enthusiastic, motivating, compassionate and caring person who has demonstrated passion to work with seniors.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Hours of work:

• Normal full-time biweekly hours shall be a minimum of 60 hours
• Hours will be based on an 6-hour shift schedule, and will include days, weekends, and holiday coverage if needed.
