Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Operations, the Recreation Manager manages the design and delivery of sports and leisure programs and special events to enhance community life in Hartland.
Duties:
- Plans, promotes, and manages recreation, fitness, and social activities for the community, including sports programs and events, concerts, and civic celebrations. Stays current with trends and developments in recreation, fitness and organized social interaction. Maintains or acquires certifications or other professional qualifications as required.
- Manages staff members, including full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal staff. Supports budgeting and procurement processes for sports, fitness, and aquatic equipment and related materials.
- Prepares communications to advertise and promote activities, programs, and events, using the town’s website, newsletters, and social media messages. Solicits public feedback about recreation through polls, surveys, and meetings. Addresses and resolves concerns and complaints from the public, Council, or other community stakeholders.
- Acts as a liaison to colleagues in other municipalities, provincial government agencies, the federal government, and other public or private organizations. Attends council meetings and participates on committees. Prepares reports for Council and the CAO.
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in recreation or a related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of best practices in the planning and administration of recreational programs and public events.
- Ability to lead and manage people. Able to recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, and manage staff.
- Ability to work a varied schedule to include evenings and weekends depending on season and activities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and social media applications, including Facebook and Instagram.
- Training and experience in Customer Service would be an asset.
- Certifications in Pool Operations, Lifeguard Training, First Aid/CPR, or ability to obtain these certifications, would be an asset.
