Reporting to the Program Manager, the Recreation Therapy Assistant will work as part of the team to assess individual leisure needs, plan, promote, coordinate, implement and evaluate group and individual programs to meet the assessed needs of the residents. The incumbent will coordinate and monitor students/volunteers that are assigned to assist with programs. The Recreation Therapy Assistant will record statistics for workload measurement and patient participation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Minimum Two year Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized College Program.
o Current Food Handlers Certificate and Smart Service Certification.
o Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario's (TRO) preferable.
o Previous experience in a therapeutic recreation setting required, preferably with older adults.
o Current First-Aid and CPR.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness.
o Working knowledge and understanding of MDS, Resident Care Plans, and Point Click Care applications.
o Ability to plan and implement individual and group programs to achieve best practices and optimal suitability for client centered care.
o Demonstrated ability to implement, facilitate, and evaluate various therapeutic recreation within Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) standards of practice.
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills.
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
o Must be available for all shifts, days, evenings, weekends and paid holidays.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
