Recreationist- Full Time

Summary:

This position is governed by the SEIU collective agreement.

Better Living at Thompson House has an opening for a permanent full-time Recreationist. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Recreationist is responsible for developing and implementing programs for a range of seniors, including those who may have a physical disability or who suffer from varied types of dementia.

The successful candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications:

• Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Activation, Gerontology or related field.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a long-term care setting.
• Strong working knowledge of client-based documentation systems such as PointClickCare and GoSagely
• Successfully complete (or already have completed) a Vulnerable Sector Screening.

The successful candidate for this position must be able to:

• Develop, implement and evaluate diversified programs and services to meet the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual needs of all residents.
• Identify and assess the resident's needs to develop fulfilling activities.
• Set up and clean the activity area as necessary and assist with transporting residents to and from programs.
• Encourage resident participation in programs and provide one to one support to residents
• Maintain program and resident records.
• Adhere to established department policies and procedures regarding quality improvement, fire, safety, environment and infection control.

Wage: Commensurate with years' experience as per Schedule "A" of the SEIU collective agreement.

Shift Schedule: Available to work weekend and evening shifts required.
