RLG System Canada is seeking Recycling Sorters to start in January 2024. The position is a permanent, full-time role reporting to our Brampton location.

  • Day shift (6:30 am - 3:00 pm)
  • Evening shift (3:30 pm - 12:00 am)

This position reports to the Manager, CCS Recycling Operations but will be directly supervised by the Supervisor, Compositional Assessment, and Team Leads. The role involves working closely with other RLG staff to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of the compositional auditing program, including the receipt of audit samples of blue box material, sorting of audit samples, shipping of materials and supplies, as well as document and data management.

Primary Job Description

  • As a Recycling Sorter, you will carry out the following duties to assist with the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of the Blue Box Program in Ontario. Key tasks include, but may not be limited to:
  • Performing compositional assessments of Blue Box Materials (BBM) by sorting and weighing these by material type in accordance with O.Reg. 391/21 Blue Box enacted under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016.
  • Performing compositional assessments following RLGs and industry standards related to policies, procedures, and protocols, including health and safety.
  • Complying with all health and safety requirements in the workplace while performing compositional assessments.
  • Maintaining the compositional audit equipment to ensure accurate and consistent data and information.
  • Performing data entry and analysis of the BBM composition as required.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities within the compositional assessment team related to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Communicating with Team Lead, Compositional Assessment and Manager, CCS Recycling Operations on risks and recommending process changes to mitigate those risks.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk while performing the work and able to lift up to 20kg.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Experience:

  • 1+ years of Experience in waste management and compositional assessment is considered an asset
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Basic understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone and within a team environment
  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Studies, Engineering, or equivalent would be an asset
